Notes:

The first three documentaries in this set examine the lives of people living in isolation in three quite different situations. These documentaries, also referred to as the Solitude Trilogy, employ ambient sound and music. “The Idea of North” ends with the last movement of Karajan’s recording of Sibelius’ Symphony no. 5, the only use of a complete movement from the classical repertoire in the trilogy. The fourth and fifth documentaries are portraits of cellist [a1005954] and conductor [a617133].
